"Already There” Content

ON THE CLOCK: I’ve been thinking a lot this week about how most small business social media content is already there. The disconnect is that, often times, most people aren’t noticing it when it’s right under their noses.

Instead of asking, “What should I post this week?” What if you started asking, “What’s going on this week that could become content?”

I’ll give you five examples:

  1. A photo of a pile of shipments can be a post titled “Today’s chaos = your orders going out”

  2. Quick snapshot of a few team members’ messy desks turns into “What a normal Tuesday actually looks like in our office!”

  3. A common question that came up again in conversation? Make it into a text-based carousel: “If you’ve ever wondered this, you’re not alone…”

  4. Your go-to playlist can be “What’s playing while I work today.” Bonus points for linking your playlist and / or a reel with you jamming with your front desk lady.

  5. A reel of the light hitting workspace = “Romanticizing the office today. It’s a great time to stop in!”

The idea is to be purposeful about taking photos and videos whenever the timing feels right. Then, keep that footage in your camera roll and use AI/GPT to help you brainstorm how to frame your content into something relevant to your business. Try:

I’m a [type of business]. I took some casual video clips of [describe what’s in the clips]. Give me 5 ways to turn this into social media content that connects to my business. Include a hook, a short caption, and a simple angle (educational, behind-the-scenes, storytelling, etc.). Keep it natural, not salesy.

Pick the idea you like the most AND THEN EDIT AND REWRITE IT IN YOUR OWN VOICE. (I’m sorry that’s in all caps. I just want to hear what you actually sound like - we’re all sick of the computer voice.)

Okay! Your business is already full of great content! You just need to frame it up and HIT POST. And, as always, I’m here for you if you need help.

PS - Off the Clock fun coming soon!
